THESSALONIKI – With great success and a large turnout of producers, agronomists and representatives of the agricultural sector, Agrohellas central information event on the theme “The New Era for Cotton” was held on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The speech took place at the company’s booth within the framework of the international AGROTICA exhibition, highlighting the solutions to the modern challenges of the global market.

The event was coordinated by Valentini Katritzidaki (Marketing Manager) and Giorgos Kapellos (Crop Nutrition Technical Support), setting the framework for a comprehensive analysis of cotton farming in Greece. The main topic of the speech was the future of farming with an emphasis on the challenges of climate change and the need for sustainable solutions through innovation and close collaboration between scientists and producers.

Cotton Research & Development: The Foundations of the New Era

The curtain was opened by Konstantinos Tzantarmas, Head of R&D at Agrohellas, presenting developments in cultivation and emphasizing that the answer to environmental difficulties is the creation of genetic material with increased adaptability. Ioannis Tokatlidis, Professor of Genetic Improvement and consultant to the company, contributed decisively to the scientific documentation, highlighting the importance of local research. At the same time, researcher and breeder Georgios Paparnakis referred to new molecular techniques and gene editing, explaining how genetic engineering allows for the faster development of varieties with enhanced resistance to diseases and abiotic stresses.

Presentation of New Varieties & Field Results

Then, the agronomists of the Technical Seeds department — Dimitris Gousias, Argyris Karpetis and Georgios Kokogiannidis — presented the three Cotton Seed Agro varieties: A67, A74 and A94, designed specifically for Greek conditions.

Agro A67 stood out for its high production potential and excellent fiber yield, Agro A74 impressed with its drought resistance and stable production in both irrigated and dryland fields, and Agro A94 stood out for its broad adaptability and stable yields in non-irrigated environments.

Particular emphasis was placed on the 2024-2025 harvest results, where the Cotton Seed Agro varieties outperformed the competition. Notably, in Nea Zichni, Serres, Agro A74 achieved +31% higher yield than the control, corresponding to +152 kg of seed.

Integrated Management for Risk-Free Cultivation

The event concluded with the presentation of the “Integrated Approach”, which combines the ideal variety with balanced nutrition and timely plant protection. Agrohellas committed to continue supporting the Greek producer in the transition to a new era of high yields and stability.
